Caregiver / Direct Care Staff
Position Title: Caregiver / Direct Care Staff
Reports To: Child Care Administrator
Position Summary
The Caregiver provides direct supervision, care, and support for children residing at Guided Path DFW, a licensed General Residential Operation (GRO). This role is essential in maintaining a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that promotes the emotional, behavioral, educational, and physical well-being of each child in compliance with Texas HHSC Minimum Standards.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Safety
- Provide continuous supervision of children in care, ensuring safety, order, and adherence to program rules.
- Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios at all times as required by HHSC.
- Monitor daily routines including wake-up, school, meals, recreation, and bedtime.
- Conduct room checks and account for all children during each shift.
Daily Care & Support
- Assist children with personal hygiene, daily chores, homework, and recreational activities.
- Encourage positive peer and staff relationships.
- Support children in attending therapy, school, extracurricular, and community activities.
Behavioral Guidance
- Implement trauma-informed care practices and positive behavior management strategies.
- Use approved discipline techniques consistent with the facility’s Discipline Policy and HHSC regulations.
- Respond to crisis situations calmly using de-escalation techniques
- Assist in developing and following individualized behavior support plans.
Health & Wellness
- Administer and document medication as authorized and trained.
- Provide first aid/CPR in emergencies.
- Support children in maintaining healthy lifestyles, including nutrition, sleep, and recreation.
Documentation & Communication
- Record daily logs, behavioral observations, incident reports, and progress notes.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, case managers, therapists, and treatment specialists.
- Maintain confidentiality of all child records and information.
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with other caregivers and staff to ensure consistency in care.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and case conferences as required.
- Contribute to a supportive, respectful workplace culture.
Qualifications
- At least 21 years of age (per HHSC standards).
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with children or youth in residential care, education, or related settings (preferred).
- Current certification in CPR/First Aid (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Completion of all HHSC pre-service training and background checks (preferred)..
- Crisis intervention training required within the first 90 days of employment (preferred)..
