Commercial Fishing Boat Captain

Overview
We are seeking an experienced and responsible Commercial Fishing Boat Captain to lead and manage fishing operations on our vessel. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, mechanical knowledge, and a background in boat management, boat captainship or military maritime service. This role requires a dedicated professional capable of overseeing daily fishing activities, ensuring safety, and maintaining the vessel’s operational efficiency. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a focus on sustainable fishing practices and team coordination.

Duties

  • Operate and navigate the fishing vessel safely during all phases of fishing expeditions.
  • Oversee crew members, assign tasks, and ensure efficient workflow onboard.
  • Manage rigging operations, including setting nets, traps, or other fishing gear.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and mechanical inspections of the vessel’s equipment and systems.
  • Implement safety protocols and ensure compliance with maritime regulations.
  • Coordinate with management for planning fishing routes, schedules, and resource allocation.
  • Maintain accurate logs of catch data, voyage details, and safety inspections.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime during trips.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of catch to preserve quality.
  • Consistently communicate with the boat owner about trips, catch and logistics.

Experience

  • Must be a licensed commercial fishing boat captain.
  • Prior experience in commercial fishing operations is required, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Experience is required for overseeing crew and operational logistics.
  • Knowledge of rigging techniques used in commercial fishing vessels is essential.
  • Mechanical knowledge related to boat systems, engines, and equipment is necessary for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to operate large vessels safely in various weather conditions.
  • Strong understanding of maritime safety regulations and environmental compliance standards. This role demands a proactive leader with technical expertise and a commitment to safe, sustainable fishing practices.
