Essential Job Duties: · Serve as primary legal point of contact for one of several domestic onshore oil and gas business units within Oxy. · Advise on all aspects of domestic oil and gas operations, including: · Contract drafting, negotiation, and interpretation – oil and gas leases (particularly royalty, pooling, continuous development, and retained acreage provisions), production sharing agreements, joint operating agreements, development agreements, farm-in/farm-out agreements, acreage exchange agreements, data trade agreements, surface use agreements, easements, title curative documents, AMIs, and preferential rights to purchase. · Handling pre-litigation claims relating to oil and gas operations. · Supporting legal due diligence on acquisitions and divestitures. · Responsible for providing accurate, concise, highly responsive legal advice in a professional manner to a diverse, cross-functional group of internal clients, including: Land, Regulatory, Compliance, Low Carbon Ventures, Revenue Accounting, and Business Development. · Possess and maintain subject matter expertise on essential laws and regulations affecting oil and gas operations, particularly within Texas and New Mexico. · Maintain and update standard form contracts and conduct internal training workshops regarding such standard form contracts. Qualifications: · JD with strong academic record. Licensed to practice law and in good standing. · Minimum five (5) years of experience in a transactional practice at a top law firm. · Demonstrated experience in the oil and gas industry is strongly preferred. · Experience handling onshore upstream oil and gas operational legal issues a plus. · Demonstrated capability to build knowledge in new areas of law. Ability to independently research and analyze issues and provide clear guidance to internal clients regarding potential legal risk. · Ability to think strategically and to appreciate both the immediate and longer term business impacts of different legal courses of action. · Must be able to multi-task and manage competing deadlines. · Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. · Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. · Ability to interact with, and inspire confidence in, individuals at all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate will possess a positive, collaborative, collegial attitude and a willingness to work outside of the assigned business unit, often supporting other oil and gas team members in their business units, in an environment of mutual respect and shared commitment to the team’s delivery of outstanding work product and responsiveness to organizational clients.
