The Role & Key Responsibilities

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
We are looking for enthusiastic, hard-working and highly skilled Transcribers/Audio typists to join our busy Digital Transcribing Team. The role of a Digital Transcriber is an integral part of the Criminal Justice Process. In this role, you will be responsible for transcribing audio recordings and handwritten statements into verbatim typed transcripts while maintaining data confidentiality and adhering to deadlines. This is a busy and demanding team, serving officers across the force, so strong IT skills, good time management, the ability to work under pressure, and a proactive, team-focused attitude are essential.
During this role, you will be asked to undertake the following responsibilities:
- Working within a busy department, as part of a team, to provide fast and accurate audio transcriptions of both suspect and victim interviews to be used primarily at Crown Court trials.
- Audio transcription of Body Worn Video and 999 calls.
- Copy typing of Witness Statements.
- Liaising with police officers at all levels, as well as colleagues within the Criminal Justice Unit.
- Working to tight deadlines to ensure court trials proceed in a timely fashion.
- Delivering excellent Customer Service.
- Using several IT systems such as Outlook, Word, In-house policing systems such as Niche, as well as audio transcription software.
Candidates will be required to undertake a short typing test at the interview stage.
Skills & Experience
- The ideal candidate would be educated to level A-C in GCSE English or the equivalent qualification.
- You should also be able to demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills together with excellent verbal and written communication including spelling, grammar and a minimum of 65 wpm typing speed.
- You should possess the ability to work independently and manage your own workload, as well as working as part of a team structure.
- You should also demonstrate the ability to work under pressure in a high volume environment, which will require a high degree of organisation, planning skills and attention to detail.
- Previous experience of working in an administrative role, with the ability to prioritise own workload and time, working methodically and accurately with minimal supervision
- Typing speed, minimum of 65 wpm
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Word and Outlook
- Ability to input, update and retrieve computer information
- Experience of audio typing
- Good communication skills
- Good decision making skills
- Capable of communicating at all levels
