About the Role:

eBay is looking for a highly experienced and strategic Director of Indirect Tax to lead indirect tax operations, governance, and innovation across the U.S. and the Americas! In this senior leadership role, you'll shape tax strategy for one of the world's largest global marketplaces-ensuring compliance, reducing risk, enabling product innovation, and supporting seamless buyer/seller experiences.

You will report directly to the Global Head of Indirect Taxes in Switzerland and serve as the primary U.S. indirect tax leader, guiding a high-performing team and partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and executive stakeholders!

What You will Accomplish:

  • Lead U.S. indirect tax strategy, including sales & use tax compliance, nexus management, taxability, and audit/controversy.
  • Oversee VAT/GST compliance and audit readiness across LATAM, partnering with global teams for alignment.
  • Own marketplace facilitator obligations, frameworks, and compliance architecture.
  • Advise on tax implications for new products, pricing, promotions, and global expansion.
  • Support with tax technology transformation, including Vertex/Avalara optimization and ERP/e-commerce integrations
  • Build and develop a high-performing, diverse tax team.
  • Lead audits, maintain documentation, and create internal and seller-facing tax guidance.
What You will Bring:
  • Dedication to working our Hybrid Model with 3+ days per week onsite in our Austin, TX office.
  • 15+ years of U.S. indirect tax experience with deep multi-state sales & use tax expertise.
  • CPA and/or CMI required; bachelor's in Accounting/Tax/Finance (advanced degree a plus).
  • Hands-on global VAT/GST experience and strong knowledge of marketplace facilitator rules.
  • Proven success optimizing Vertex, Avalara, and tax automation solutions.
  • Experience in technology, marketplaces, e-commerce, or digital platforms strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership presence, communication skills, and ability to navigate sophisticated cross-functional initiatives.

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$162,800 - $244,000

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
