In addition to excellent base pay and exceptional benefits, <b>USBP is offering up to $60,000 in additional incentives.</b></p><p><b>Salary and Benefits</b></p><p>Annual base salary for newly appointed officers varies per grade level, in the range of GL-5/GL-7 $51,632 - $92,219 per year. Officers are eligible for a variety of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).</p><p><b>*Recruitment Incentive*</b> Newly appointed Border Patrol Officers will be eligible for up to $20,000 in incentives. The first $10,000 will be awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, while the remaining $10,000 is available for accepting priority locations.</p><p><b>*Retention Incentive*</b> Newly appointed Border Patrol Officers may also qualify for up to $40,000 in additional incentives distributed over their first four years.</p><p><b>Duty Locations</b></p><p><b>NOTE:</b> Assignments may include the Southwest Border, and relocation may be required. Duty locations impact pay rates, with locality pay higher in certain areas. A fully trained officer may qualify for up to an additional 25% of base pay according to the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career progression role through grades GL-5 to GS-12, with eligible promotions occurring after 52 weeks in each grade.</p><p><b>Duties and Responsibilities</b></p><p>As a Border Patrol Officer, you will be a vital member of a workforce dedicated to protecting the American public by securing our borders and reducing illegal activity. Typical assignments include:</p><ul><li>Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of immigration and customs violations and inspecting their documents and belongings.</li><li>Preventing and apprehending undocumented individuals and smugglers at or near borders through surveillance efforts.</li><li>Interpreting and tracking evidence of illegal border crossings.</li><li>Conducting farm checks, building checks, city patrols, and transportation inspections.</li><li>Patrolling international boundaries using various government assets including vehicles, vessels, and ATVs.</li></ul><p><b>Qualifications</b></p><p><b>To qualify for the GL-5 grade level:</b></p><p>One (1) year of general work experience demonstrating the ability to take charge, make decisions, and remain composed in stressful situations; learn regulations and methods via training; gather information effectively through observation and questioning; <b>OR</b></p><p>A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; <b>OR</b></p><p>A combination of general work experience and college education.</p><p><b>To qualify for the GL-7 grade level:</b></p><p>One year of specialized work experience showing skills to:</p><ul><li>Make sound judgments in the use of firearms.</li><li>Interact courteously and effectively in law enforcement situations.</li><li>Analyze information quickly and make prompt decisions related to arrests and law enforcement.</li></ul><p>This experience relates to making arrests and exercising sound judgment in law enforcement matters.</p><p><b>Note:</b> Individuals with law enforcement or military law enforcement background may qualify for higher grade levels.</p><p><b>Other Requirements</b></p><p><b>Citizenship:</b> U.S. Citizenship is required.</p><p><b>Residency:</b> Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years is mandatory.</p><p><b>Age Restriction:</b> Candidates must be referred for selection before reaching their 40th birthday as per Department of Homeland Security regulations, with exceptions for certain individuals.</p><p><b>Veterans' Preference:</b> Eligible veterans may qualify for an excepted service Veterans Recruitment Appointment.</p><p><b>Formal Training:</b> Successful candidates will undergo approximately six months of intensive training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico.</p><p><b>How to Apply:</b></p><p>Interested applicants can click the Apply button on this site to be linked to the CBP Talent Network registration page.
