Role Description
This position is 100% remote from the Cincinnati, OH area. As the Associate State Director for Advocacy and Community Engagement, you will help us bring our mission to life in Cincinnati and the surrounding region. In this role, you will be at the forefront of our local advocacy and community engagement efforts.
- Build relationships with community leaders, academic institutions, businesses, policymakers, and volunteers.
- Champion initiatives that address critical issues.
- Serve as the voice of AARP in the region, representing our interests to elected officials, government agencies, and partner organizations.
- Lead the implementation of local, state, and national campaigns focused on the surrounding areas within the Cincinnati region.
- Recruit, train, and empower volunteer teams.
- Establish strategic partnerships and leverage resources to amplify our impact.
Responsibilities
- Identify issues of public policy and organizational importance, and develop and implement advocacy strategies at local, state, and federal levels.
- Collaborate with internal/external partners on advocacy campaign communication strategy development.
- Utilize direct action organizing tactics and implement grassroots advocacy tools to build constituent support for the organization’s legislative priorities.
- Work with staff, volunteers, members, and other cross-organization teams to achieve community engagement goals.
- Establish a presence for the organization in targeted communities by engaging multicultural audiences and developing community partnerships.
- Represent the organization and its interests to federal, state, and local government agencies and media outlets.
- Build and maintain relationships with governmental representatives to advance the organization's goals.
- Develop and communicate persuasive narratives aligned with the organization’s priorities to diverse audiences.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert on the state office’s advocacy issues.
- Produce written reports and/or convene public meetings to disseminate findings and share best practices.
- Recruit, train, develop, and deploy volunteers in accordance with organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, including community organizing, lobbying, coalition and relationship building.
- Experience with developing and executing campaign tactics to promote issues related to AARP’s social mission.
- Experience with recruiting, training, engaging, and managing volunteers.
- Ability to lead and manage multiple issues and/or projects simultaneously.
- Commitment to nonpartisanship.
- Ability to travel up to 50% within the local community and occasional statewide travel.
- Familiarity with local and state businesses, entertainment, and community service environments preferred.
