INGHAM COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT PUBLIC HEALTH AMERICORPS is a national service program. Members (hereby known as volunteers) are not employees or interns.
Term of Service: 4/06/2026 to 09/30/2026 (25 weeks)
Slot Type and Minimum Service Hours: Half Time; 900 Hours (36 hours per week, on average)
Living Allowance: $11,000, disbursed in equal bi-weekly increments across service term

Position Title: Housing Services Coordinator
Reports To: Khadja Erickson – Executive Director
ABOUT THE HOST SITE
The Tenant Resource Center of Mid-Michigan (TRC) is a community-driven organization dedicated to keeping Lansing residents housed - and helping those without housing find a place to call home. We provide tenants with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to navigate rental disputes, fight evictions, and assert their rights. For those searching for housing, we offer guidance, resources, and connections to help secure safe, affordable homes. Through advocacy, education, and direct action, we stand alongside tenants to challenge unjust housing practices and build a future where safe, stable housing is a right - NOT a privilege.
VOLUNTEER IMPACT
The Housing Services Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting the Executive Director and other staff in expanding services and resources for mid-Michigan tenants. The volunteer will address the housing crisis through direct service support, tenant education, resource development, and organizational capacity building.
POSITION DETAILS
Responsibilities:
Event Coordination
· Support the planning of annual TRC community engagement events
· Support the planning of quarterly tenant events with city and county offices (i.e. register and deeds office, treasurers’ office, etc.) to provide housing assistance/resources
· Create, organize, and evaluate tenant engagement events to increase awareness of rights and resources, as well as build support networks
Tenant Resources and Engagement
· Provide direct housing services to clients who call or visit the TRC
· Help develop and implement strategies to increase client foot traffic to TRC’s newly relocated site
· Develop protocol and resources for tenants facing delinquent housing-related charges that create barriers to accessing housing
· Engage in social media content creation and engagement
Research and Analysis
· Research housing policies, trends, resources; create, develop, and disseminate briefs, presentations, and infographics
· Support staff in building landlord data base
Community Partnership Development
· Participate in housing related community coalitions and workgroups, report community trends to TRC
· Collaborate with the MSHDA Regional Housing Partnership Equity, Education, and Empowerment (3E) workgroup to create a standardized process to accessing project-based vouchers.
Volunteer Management and Coordination
· Recruit, retain, and document TRC volunteers to support TRC services
· Support identifying strategic volunteer opportunities to provide responsive services during times of high need or crisis
Minimum Knowledge and Skills
· Some experience in the field of housing or social services
· Ability to produce accessible informational materials
· Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
· Ability to conduct basic research and to communicate findings
· Ability to utilize Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, etc), Google Suite, and social media
· Ability to work independently and within a team.
Desired Knowledge and Skills
· Some experience working directly on tenant-landlord matters
· Some knowledge of the Lansing housing landscape
· Some practice/skill in de-escalation and serving clients in crises
· Some experience with event planning or coordination
· Some knowledge of basic local/state policies related to tenant rights
Service Conditions:
· In-person service with teleservice option available 1 day a week.
· In-person location: 6035 Executive Dr, Lansing, MI 48911
· TRC will provide laptop and any necessary software; volunteer is responsible for their own alternative work site equipment outside of the previously listed items
· In-person environment: shared office space, may be required to be off-site at local community agencies and events
· Volunteers are required to have reliable transportation
Service Schedule:
· Volunteer will serve 4 days a week in-person; remaining days of teleservice flexible as agreed upon with host site supervisor.
· A regular service schedule Monday-Friday between 8 am and 5 pm will be determined. Schedule flexibility can be shifted based on agreement with site supervisor. Some evening and weekend availability may be required.
· Volunteers are required to participate and attend monthly ICHD Public Health AmeriCorps professional development, quarterly ICHD AmeriCorps professional development, participate in events including national service days, and regional and local service projects
· Sick or personal days are allowed, but volunteers lose possible days to earn the required number of hours needed to successfully complete the term of service. There are additional benefits offered if the volunteer has a compelling personal circumstance
AMERICORPS PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
· Participate in monthly ICHD PHA AmeriCorps Training and Professional Development in topics like grant-writing and resume development
· Participate in National Days of Service (9/11 Day of Service, MLK Day of Service, Russ Mawby Regional Day of Service, Youth Volunteer Day)
· Attend AmeriCorps orientation at the Ingham County Health Department
· All volunteers will participate in an end of service performance evaluation
· All volunteers will be required to submit bi-weekly time sheets, quarterly data reports, and all other data tasks requested by the Host Site
Public Health AmeriCorps Volunteers should possess:
· a desire and ability to work with a diverse group of people;
· a willingness to learn and serve others;
· an ability to work independently and in a team environment successfully, and
· strong organizational, writing, and oral communication skills, and a high attention to detail
AmeriCorps Program Eligibility
· be 17 years or older at the start of service (no upper age limit)
· have earned a high school diploma or GED
· be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien
· Agree to and pass a national service criminal history check with eligibility verification in accordance with 45 CFR 2540.202.
AmeriCorps Commitment and Benefits
· Loan forbearance and interest repayment available for eligible loans
· End of Service Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $3,697.50
· $25 per month allowance for mileage reimbursement during each month of service for service related travel
· Up to $130 available in professional development funds
