An exciting opportunity has become available to work at Poynton library, a busy community library that provides a quality and diverse range of services for its customers. This position is for 0.4 FTE (14.75 hours) per week worked over a two week timetable.

Week 1: Monday and Tuesday 10 - 5pm , Wednesday 10 - 1pm,

Week 2: Wednesday 10 - 1pm, Thursday 10 - 5pm and Saturday 9 - 1pm

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a key front-facing member of the library team, you will be the first point of contact for customers, providing friendly support in person, by phone and by email. You’ll assess customer needs, resolve enquiries at first contact wherever possible, and direct users to the right information or services

You will operate key library systems, including stock circulation and ICT tools, ensuring records remain accurate and up to date. Day‑to‑day duties include counter work, handling payments in line with Council financial procedures, and carrying out routine administrative and stock tasks. You’ll also support customers in accessing ICT facilities and assist in delivering community activities that promote cultural, educational and recreational engagement

In this role, you’ll play an active part in maintaining a safe and secure library environment and will contribute ideas that help improve service delivery. Flexibility is essential, as you may occasionally be required to work at different locations across Cheshire East to support operational needs.

ABOUT YOU

You will have:

  • Strong basic IT skills and the ability to help customers with digital access.
  • Accuracy when handling cash, payments and everyday transactions.
  • A calm, professional manner when dealing with enquiries or challenges.
  • Enthusiasm for supporting and delivering library events and activities.
  • Flexibility to work across different library locations.
