Conservation Legacy Program: Stewards Individual Placements
**THIS IS A REMOTE POSITION REQUIRING TELESERVICE**
Member Location: Member should be within the United States and able to serve according to Eastern Time business hours. The member will be able to use available travel funds for any required in-person service at a park or NPS office as needed.

- Anticipated End Date: 2/19/27 (40 weeks)

Purpose:
Stewards Individual Placements is an AmeriCorps Program which provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and protect our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting the conservation of natural areas. The National Park Service Southeast Regional Office supports 75 parks across nine states and two territories including large wilderness areas, battlefields, and a wide range of other resources. The Southeast Region Geospatial Resources Team provides Geographic Information Systems technical, project, and data support, as well as training and a community platform for all employees and partners of the National Park Service Southeast Region. Stewards, in partnership with the National Park Service's Southeast Regional Office, is seeking a member who will serve as part of the regional office staff to support park geospatial needs.
The GIS Member is an AmeriCorps position which will provide assistance to the NPS for improvement of geographic information systems (GIS) maps and spatial data for park units in the Southeast Region. The maps and data that will be improved will assist parks with operations, planning, managing resources, and maintaining facilities for the public to enhance the visitor experience. Service projects may be specific to a project or site at a park, involve region-wide efforts, or relate to supporting parks before, during, and after storm events.

Description of Duties:
As an AmeriCorps Member serving remotely with the NPS Southeast Regional Office, your responsibilities will include:
- Creating maps of operational datasets (trails, roads, buildings, points of interest).
- Aggregating or creating new data that parks identify as priorities.
- Creating maps and online geographic information visualization tools for both internal and public use.
Qualifications:
- United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
- Between the ages of 18 – 30, or up to age 35 with Veteran status.
- Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award.
- Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
- Bachelor's degree.
- GIS experience.
- Basic map making and data skills.

Time Requirements:
- Typically, this position is expected to serve 40 hours a week Monday to Friday, 8am – 4:30pm EST, but exact service schedules may vary. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service.
- Serving on weekends and federal holidays may be required.
- The member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.
- The member will serve remotely via teleservice.
- Some travel may be required for in-person service.
Orientation and Training:
- The member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.
- The member will receive both online ESRI-provided trainings and specific task trainings by the on-site mentor.
- The member will be able to attend training programs that support park related tasks and align with their skills and interests, offered at the park, regional, or national level.
- The on-site mentor will ensure that the member has the skills and training they need to be successful. Over the course of the service term, the member will take on additional autonomy and responsibility as their skills develop. Specific tasks are tracked in a task database.

- Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,176.50.

Evaluation and Reporting:

Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
