Part Time Online Tutor in Maths - Home based with flexible hours

About the role:

As a subject tutor, you will teach, support, guide, and assess group(s) of learners across our GCSE and/or Functional Skills online courses. You will play a crucial role in this award-winning delivery model, ensuring that learners have a positive and enriching experience throughout their entire learning journey. Between designated weekly teaching hours, prompt assessment and marking their work, and providing personalised 1-1 support where needed, you will ensure your learners have all the support they need to succeed in building a better career profile.

In addition to these responsibilities you will be liaising with other staff to contact students who are not engaging, monitor their progress, providing timely interventions, and assist them with UCAS/employment applications to support their next steps.

As a subject practitioner, we will help our learners in a holistic manner; i.e. not only academically but also in building confidence and motivation to improve their career profile and employability. Together, we will support their social mobility as their future aspirations often lie in areas such as nursing, midwifery, paramedics, teachers, etc, sectors lacking qualified candidates.

This is a variable hours contract set to start in March 2026. Salary will be dependent on learner engagement.

What do you need to be successful as an Online Tutor at Activate Learning?

Successful candidates will need to to be qualified to Level 3 (A-Level) in Maths, have an understanding of how people learn and be able to show demonstrable experience of working independently. You should be able to build strong relationships quickly, even via remote meetings. It would be desirable to have experience teaching GCSEs or Functional Skills specifically, and to have experience working with online learners.

You do not need to be a qualified teacher; however, having emotional intelligence and the ability to support online learners and work collaboratively remotely are essential skills for this role. Full training will be provided on our award-winning online platform for the right candidate.

As this is a home based role with many of our students studying in the evening, you will need to have a flexible approach, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You will demonstrate the ability to engage and develop students and role model the attributes that we aspire to develop within our learners. You can be based anywhere in the UK to do this role.
