Summer Seasonal Leadership Position Biddeford Pool Yacht Club (BPYC) is seeking an experienced, organized, and enthusiastic Sailing Program Director to lead our Junior Sailing Program (JSP) for the summer season. Located on the southern Maine coast, BPYC offers a vibrant sailing community and a comprehensive junior program serving sailors ages 5–17. Housing is provided, and pay is competitive based on experience and qualifications. Position Summary The Sailing Program Director is responsible for the overall operation, administration, instruction, and safety of the BPYC Junior Sailing Program in accordance with the policies and direction of the Club’s General Manager and the Junior Sailing Committee. The Director manages and supervises all Sailing Instructors and Junior Instructors, ensuring high-quality instruction, consistent safety standards, and a positive team culture throughout the program. The Program Director reports directly to the Club General Manager and the Junior Sailing Committee Chair. The Director oversees all junior sailing staff and is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and coordination of the program. Key Responsibilities Program Leadership & Administration Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Sailing Instructors and Junior Instructors Maintain accurate and up-to-date program records, including budget-related documentation Produce and distribute monthly newsletters (minimum of three per summer: early July, early August, and end-of-program) Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, including weekly updates and event communications Oversee safety protocols for instructors, students, and families within the sailing program Organize class placements and manage registration records Maintain attendance, performance evaluations, medical forms, and student progress records Implement and administer progress reports and awards Coordinate prizes, incentives, and recognition programs Maintain and update the JSP database, including planning for the following year Conduct weekly meetings with sailing staff and regular meetings with the Junior Sailing Committee Chair Collaborate in staff-wide weekly meetings with Club leadership Develop and execute special events, including Friday events, interclubs, regattas, and alternative programming (e.g., rainy-day classes) Oversee and assist with boat and equipment maintenance Assist in refining and improving curriculum as needed Ensure adherence to Program Procedures and Operations guidelines Teaching & Daily Operations Develop lesson plans aligned with curriculum objectives Teach classes and substitute for instructors as needed Lead instructor orientation and pre-season training Conduct daily staff meetings to review lesson plans, safety procedures, and daily logistics Support and guide sailing staff to ensure instructional consistency and program success Conduct a pre-season safety walk-through of facilities, including written recommendations and follow-up Ensure compliance with employee policies Work collaboratively with all Club staff Promote and uphold the mission, standards, and image of the Club, Officers, Trustees, staff, and programs
