Join us, and let’s improve lives together.<br><br></strong><ul><li>This position can be performed remotely for candidates who reside in Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina*<br><br></li></ul><strong>Essential Functions<br><br></strong><ul><li>Selects, grows and maintains a profitable book of business for assigned high-volume territory with a high level of underwriting authority</li><li>Evaluates and analyzes highly complex accounts for risk selection and pricing purposes</li><li>Analyzes exposure, company and branch risk appetite, account premium and loss history, financial data, line(s) of business, price guidance, motor vehicle records, online sources of information, reports from premium audit or risk improvement and other relevant information to underwrite policies.</li><li>Develops and fosters agency relationships</li><li>Educates agents on EMC products, underwriting appetite, systems and services. </li><li>Visits agencies to discuss accounts and provide agents with updates at EMC in order to maximize opportunities. </li><li>Communicates with agents proactively and anticipates agents and insureds’ needs. </li><li>Identifies opportunities and potential barriers within agency relationships</li><li>Collaborates with marketing representatives to ensure agents receive superior customer experiences</li><li>Offers appropriate coverage for exposures and explains decisions to agents</li><li>Coordinates with marketing and branch management in the agency planning and review processes</li><li>Serves as a mentor for less experienced underwriters.</li><li>Answers questions, shares recommendations for complex situations, such as difficult accounts, communication strategies or problematic agency relationships and explains the rationale for recommendations. </li><li>Supports underwriting management through reviewing work of less experienced underwriters and providing training.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Education & Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>Bachelor's degree, preferably in insurance or business administration</li><li>Five years of experience in commercial lines underwriting</li><li>Insurance designations, such as CPCU preferred<br><br></li></ul><strong>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Excellent knowledge of underwriting and risk analysis</li><li>Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions</li><li>Strong customer service skills</li><li>Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media</li><li>Ability to work on multiple projects while meeting deadlines</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak effectively before groups</li><li>Strong presentation skills preferred</li><li>Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently</li><li>Demonstrated leadership qualities</li><li>Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if traveling<br><br></li></ul><strong>The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following:<br><br></strong>$92,670 - $128,045 or $102,443 - $140,845<br><br><strong>A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range.
