Senior Data Modeler

Overview

As a Sr. Data Modeler, you will design and implement data modeling solutions using relation, dimensional and NoSQL databases. This role is critical for designing, developing, and optimizing our data architecture to support various business needs and to ensure the integrity and performance of our data systems. Candidate will work closely with the architecture and various application development teams to design bespoke databases using a mix of physical and logical data models.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain logical and physical data models using Erwin for both OLTP and Data Warehouse systems.
  • Ensure data models align with enterprise data architecture standards and best practices.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into efficient data models.
  • Work closely with architects, data analysts, and business analysts to gather and define data requirements.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and developers to integrate data models with application logic.
  • Perform data analysis and profiling to support data model development and optimization.
  • Manage metadata and data lineage to ensure data traceability and compliance.
  • Evaluate implemented data systems for variances, discrepancies, and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize data systems.
  • Optimize and tune Oracle and Vertica databases to ensure high performance and availability.
  • Develop and maintain database schemas, tables, views, indexes, and other database objects.
  • Implement data integration solutions and ETL processes to load data into Data Warehouses and OLTP systems.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Automate routine data management tasks using Python and other scripting languages.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior data modelers and other team members.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in data modeling, with a strong focus on OLTP and Data Warehouse systems.
  • Proficiency in using Erwin Data Modelers tool for data modeling.
  • Extensive experience with Oracle, Vertica and Bigdata, including database design, performance tuning and optimization.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in developing data processing and automation scripts.
  • Solid understanding of ETL processes, data integration techniques, and data governance principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud data warehousing solutions like Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery preferred.
  • Experience with big data technologies preferred.
  • Familiarity with other data modeling tools and database technologies preferred.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools preferred.

  • Occasional on-site work or meetings may be required at one of our office locations: Tampa, FL; Madison, WI; St. Louis, MO; or Hartford, CT. Preference will be given to candidates located in or near these areas.
