Sr. Associate I, Instrumentation & Calibration Technical Support

The Sr. Associate I, Instrumentation and Calibration Technical Support position is responsible for GxP documenting and, where applicable, performing the installation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments. In this role, you will work closely with R&D Scientists and the Laboratory Instruments & Systems team to ensure reliable operation of laboratory assets, requiring strong attention to detail, effective communication, and substantial task‑management skills. This role is 100% on-site in our Durham, NC location and key responsibilities include: Install, calibrate, maintain, qualify and repair laboratory instruments (e.g., HPLC, GC, thermometers, osmometers, KF titrators, FTIR, pH, etc.) Collaborate with scientists to determine source of error when systems malfunction, initiate repair tickets with vendors where applicable Enter and manage data in calibration and maintenance software Assists with vendor scheduling and communications; escort vendor technicians while onsite performing services Help track metrics for laboratory instruments (e.g., repair downtimes, % on-time completion, defects) Adhere to GxP regulations by following SOPs, protocols, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring quality control Follow safety procedures for proper handling and disposal of laboratory waste where applicable Complete all required training and meet individual job requirements Contribute to overall compliance and continuous improvement of laboratory systems What You'll Bring to Alcon: Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs) The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English 2 Years of Relevant Experience Preferred Qualifications: All associates must adhere to GxP regulations by strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintaining accurate and complete documentation, ensuring rigorous quality control, and completing all required training. Knowledge of repair of HPLC PDA and mass spectrophotometer (MS) instruments Familiarity with CMMS software Associates are responsible for meeting their individual job requirements and contributing to the overall compliance of the organization.
