Standards & Enforcement (“S&E”) at Substack is tasked with enforcing content guidelines and legal compliance platform-wide while upholding Substack’s commitment to free speech. As an <strong>S&E Engineer</strong> on our Systems team, you’ll work with our team of S&E specialists and with product stakeholders to fight spam and platform abuse.</p><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><h3><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></h3><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Work cross-functionally to build robust trust & safety features into the Substack product</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Build systems that balance user experience with platform safety, and own projects end-to-end</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Our tech stack includes Typescript, Node/Express, React, Postgres, Redis, and DynamoDB. It’s helpful if you’re familiar with some of these already, if not, we’ll be excited to help you learn.</p></li></ul><h3><strong>Requirements:</strong></h3><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">5+ years of software engineering experience.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Can contribute across the full web stack, with strong backend experience.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Strong candidates will have experience building and maintaining abuse detection systems at scale.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Independent and autonomous. We’re too small to micromanage, and expect that every person at the company owns their work and can be a leader.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Hold yourself and others to a high standard when working on production systems.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Take pride in building elegant and delightful product experiences. Our cash compensation salary range for this role is $175,000 - $215,000.
